The Singapore Sling was created in the early 1900s by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon at the Long Bar in Raffles Hotel, Singapore, originally designed as a refined, pink-hued drink for women at a time when public drinking by ladies was discouraged. Built around gin, cherry liqueur, citrus, and bitters, it became an international icon of colonial-era cocktail culture and remains closely associated with its birthplace today.
